What can acupuncture treat?
Anyone can benefit from acupuncture, when it is provided by a traditional acupuncturist because it works directly on a persons health rather than attacking a specific disease. Even when a disease is incurable it is often possible to ease symptoms and improve general well-being.
As traditional acupuncturists we treat a very wide range of conditions. The following is intended merely as a guide to some of the conditions most commonly treated and is not by any means exhaustive:
Musculoskeletal: Tennis and golfers elbow, frozen shoulder, low back pain, sciatica, knee pain, neck pain, arthritis, RSI, sports injuries.
Mental/emotional problems: Anxiety, insomnia, depression, manic depression, stress disorders.
Gastrointestinal: Irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion.
Respiratory: Hay-fever, asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis. tonsillitis, catarrh, poor immunity.
Skin disorders: Eczema, acne, psoriasis.
Ear and eye: Otitis media, tinitus, menieres disease, conjunctivitis, blurred vision, dizziness.
Nervous system: Migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, facial paralysis, after effects of stroke, multiple sclerosis.
Urinary disorders: Cystitis, incontinence, urinary retention.
Women’s disorders: Menstrual problems, menopausal problems, hot flushes, infertility, post natal depression, uterine prolapse, induction of labour.
Men’s disorders: Impotence, premature ejaculation, prostatitis.
Chronic fatigue disorders. e.g. M.E., fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (C.F.S.)
Post Operative Pain:
In addition acupuncture is commonly used to ameliorate the side effects of medication, and can make life more bearable for people undergoing aggressive medical treatment.
We also often use acupuncture as a support to people going through difficult periods in their lives, from quitting smoking to bereavement.
